It’s disturbing to me that Harris is openly inviting this kind of misogyny into her cabinet, where women are relegated to the kitchen and men take all the credit. A vote for Trump is a vote for women in the same roles as men, like lawyers, entrepreneurs, hunters, scientists, and leaders.
As well they should. Russia and Belarus should never be allowed to normalize this, and that should include ostracization in literally every aspect of their existence. You want to launch genocidal, imperialist invasions, run sham elections for a fascist oligarch, repress your citizens, blatantly kill political rivals day in and day out including outside of your own territory, sell arms to Myanmar’s military, buddy up with North Korea and the Syrian government, send mercenaries to Africa to make things even worse there, cause ecological disasters in service of your illegal invasions, outlaw the expression of sexual and gender minorities, threaten war so flippantly that all of your western neighbors feel the need to join a defensive pact, interfere heavily in foreign elections to put fascists into power, and otherwise be one of the biggest, most backward shitholes on the planet? Then we’ll treat you as such.

Yeah, they left off the rest of that lesson, which is “boycotts don’t work if you don’t fucking do them”. Boycotts work when they happen, and it’s still a good thing to personally boycott a game you feel isn’t up to your standards even if the broader community isn’t, but it’s been consistently shown nonetheless that gamers are horrible at wide-scale boycotts.
It’s not, unless they’re some sort of cryptography expert with a peer-reviewed white paper pending publication. The Signal protocol (GPLv3) is extremely robust and has almost no capacity for metadata generation, and both the app and server-side code are under the AGPLv3 (technically if they were compromised they could use different, unaudited server-side code, but refer back to “basically no metadata”). Signal has essentially no capacity to be compromised; they can’t even bait and switch users with a pre-compiled app whose source code isn’t the publicly available one and actually has a backdoor because their builds are reproducible and it would be caught immediately.
Maybe they take issue with the crypto bullshit, which is valid but doesn’t compromise messaging security. Maybe they don’t like that they took away SMS, which I completely agree with, but also actually makes it marginally more secure. Either way, I seriously doubt if they had any mathematical insight into Signal being “compromised” that they would be here hanging around on Lemmy right now.
