I love Lemmy but I really, really miss the old web. Back when people would just create their own website and put it out there to share their niche interest with the world. People just organically linked their sites to each other to form web rings, an easy method of federation without any reliance on sophisticated server-side software.

It makes me so depressed thinking about how many thousands of Ukrainian lives could’ve been saved by just giving Ukraine full and enthusiastic support immediately instead of dragging it out this long.

Apple’s going to fight all of this tooth and nail, country by country, to the end of time. Anything less and they risk a shareholder lawsuit.

This is billions and billions of dollars we’re talking about, not chump change.

“Before” the Big Bang is nonsense. It’s equivalent to saying “head north from the North Pole.”

Google is absolutely allergic to hiring humans for manual review. They view it as an existential issue because they have billions of users which means they’d need to hire millions of people to do the review work.

This kind of violence towards animals is strongly associated with psychopathy. These should really be kicked off the force and sentenced to several years in jail.

Just buy a brick of cheese and shred your own! It’s not that hard and you get more cheese for the same money.

You can fix your YouTube algorithm by going into your watching history and deleting the videos you don’t want used for recommendations!

Yeah honestly. The Google ad-based search system created a set of incentives that just destroyed the internet! I miss the days when people created their own fun little quirky websites like Ian’s Shoelace Site. That used to be every site on the internet!
