I don’t wanna hear any more moralizing and complaining from young leftists who can’t even be bothered to perform their civic duty and vote. Shut the fuck up. What happens to Gaza in 2025 is on you, not Harris or the Democrats. And when you bitch about the genocide, remember that you facilitated it. You gave up your duty and gave Netanyahu exactly what he wanted, a clear path.

So it’s the leftists fault for not voting hard enough between two pro-genocide candidates. What were we supposed to do to vote against the genocide, vote third party?

No, the blood is on liberals who allow the Democrats to support a genocide and get away with it without losing their votes to an anti-genocide candidate. Also on the Democrats for making their platform regressive and boring in favor of their donors so people lose interest in them and they lose.

Listen, the dems have to seig heil in all their ads to entice white moderate centrist suburban women in 2028.

Now shut up and vote for 99% hitler, do you want Trump to win his third term?

Yeah it fucking is; they ran a fucking campaign that ignored the anti-genocide movement and instead decided they would win by campaigning with God damn Liz FUCKING Cheney and Laura FUCKING Bush instead of God damn Palestinian Americans and the anti-war movement. They wanted to win by going to the center, and they once again fucking LOST doing it, and it’s somehow the God damn left’s fault? Maybe, when your candidate loses with a strategy that the left tells you is a bad fucking idea, it’s time for you to shut the fuck up, not them.

I voted so I’m sure you won’t mind hearing from this leftist. The problem isn’t people who didn’t vote. The problem is how the Democrats ran their campaign. They continue to punch left to try to appeal to moderate right-wingers who will never vote for them!

Instead, they should have punched right and tried to appeal to their base on the left. Even the “scary far left people” like me.

How to do that? They should have come out against the genocide in Israel instead of sicking the police on the fucking protesters.

But sure blame random individuals and what they chose to do. That sure sounds like The first step in fixing a large structural problem. /s

Not that it matters anyway, we won’t be voting again not for real anyway.

No, it just simply doesn’t. Regardless of how many (how fucking depressingly many) people voted for him, how fucked this country is, no one deserves to live through a fascist regime. We don’t want housing just for the good homeless, we don’t think only women who are “responsible” should have access to abortions, we don’t think only Respectable Gays should have marriage rights. In the same vein, we shouldn’t want only the good countries, only the good populations, to be free from tyranny. 70 million votes for that asshat, 70 out of 350. This country doesn’t deserve this, because no one deserves this.

And the White House sat on Trump’s insurrection for four fucking years.

The system as a whole failed us when it didn’t convict Trump on either impeachment.

You cannot convince me that Republicans wouldn’t have been rabidly screaming from rooftops that a Democratic President should be impeached if one did the same things Trump did while in office. And the sad thing is Democrats would have agreed and impeached him.

Republicans only care about holding on to power. Nothing else anymore.

And we as a nation just handed it to a candidate who wants to be ‘Dictator for a day’ as if any dictator has ever willingly relinquished power.

As someone in a non-traditional relationship, and who has two female children, I am fucking terrified.

I’d like to take this moment to shine the spotlight on aidan@lemmy.world, HLMenckenFan@lemmy.world, jordanlund@lemmy.world, little_cow@lemmy.world, and outrageousmatter@lemmy.world

The mods of this community (and indeed this whole instance) demonstrated that pulling out all stops to censor even the most valid and well-worded criticisms of Kamala Harris’s absolute shit, right wing platform are a recipe for disaster.

I hope it’s clear now: If your supposed leftist candidate can’t even run to the left of the GOP, they are going to lose. This is what happens when corporatists take over your entire party and you jump to their defense, pulling out all the stops against actual leftists, trying to raise the alarm that our party has been stolen because you’re a stupid identity politics dupe.

Like it or not, but he didn’t cheat. He won by playing the economy card.

People have this false sense of immediacy that causes them to believe that the current president is responsible for the economy from beginning to end of term. What they don’t realize is that the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly; the current president really only begins to affect change after the first year of the presidency. Biden had to recover from the massive sinkhole the pandemic caused, and succeeded. The main problem is that company executives kept their inflated prices, and weren’t forced to do otherwise.

People see this, and jump straight to the conclusion that Biden is responsible for the increase in price of their groceries.

If prices didn’t come down after, then Biden didn’t succeed. That’s where Dems collapsed on their economic messaging. They touted out a victory that nobody but the 1% could actually feel. Once it was clear that corporations were using the pandemic as a smoke-screen to massively inflate their prices, the government should have taken action.

I voted for Harris but I can’t help but feel democrats did this to themselves. We’ve held a decent amount of power over the last 20 years but have done shockingly little. Just slowly letting our country dry and shrivel, leaving people increasingly desperate. Times like these make people seek change, ANY CHANGE, including voting for a dictator. Status-quo politics will fail every time during times like these. Who wants to die slowly?

All authoritarian countries are born from desperation. Chinese communist party, Nazi Germany, the USSR, Iran, North Korea and soon America.

Yeah, I think a lot of dem voters have grown really apathetic. Democrat leaders hardly do anything so there’s a sense of pointlessness. It feels like their pitch is “we’re gonna fix everything by doing nothing! Trust us guys it’s gonna work this time!”. Trump says a bunch of bat shit crazy stuff that at least makes seem hes committed. I think that’s the key here.

permalink

Exactly this. And if you point it out, you’ll get all these reasons why it was impossible for Dems because of X, Y and Z, but deathly silence when it comes to “well but why were the Rs able to accomplish so much”? They’re managing to get people into office and do things while the Dems constantly flounder - which leads to even worse election results as constituents lose more faith in their ability to lead.

It’s a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. Dems are ineffectual, so they struggle to win elections, so they struggle to have the power to do anything, thus looking like continued failures and ensuring more losses down the line.

The whole party needs to be severely gutted and reborn. Or a third party needs to rise up and start speaking for the average progressive voice that’s not being heard anymore.

Watching the count last night, I remarked to my friend that Democrats lost people in the middle—the undecided voters whose existence I struggled to understand a few months ago—because they don’t actually have any principles and convictions; if they did, they’d eventually have to address issues that neoliberal capitalists want people to ignore, so they remain ineffectual and uninspiring.

Thus, white middle-class centrists who don’t actually comprehend the threat to minority groups drifted back into their nostalgic dreams of ‘smaller government’ and ‘lower taxes’, regardless of being presented no evidence those things will be delivered. In their minds, those theoretical ideals are more exciting than another establishment Democrat with no values who does nothing to speak to their woes.

It leads to apathetic voters too, democrats who dont bother voting because they figure it won’t change anything.

The dems have an identity crisis, they are so aggravatingly centrist in an attempt to swing votes, that they’ve become incredibly passive in their approach. Republicans are determined to completely restructure America according to their ideology. Dems are so politically inclusive in their approach, trying to cater to “far left”, left, centrist AND slight right conservative that they are paralyzed concerning policy. The very best thing they can do is a 5% tax cut for the working class? Seriously?

I think if they went further left with candidates like Bernie, existing dems would be much more compelled to go out and vote. Right now they have zero commitment, almost none of Biden’s policies came to fruition.
