So January 6 should have been sexier? /s

Edit: I thought this was a fun, snarky comment but after seeing some of the replies, I regret making it 😆

I suppose he acquitted Trump because the events of Jan 6th weren’t gay enough. Shirtless shaman guy got Sen. Romney slightly aroused but it didn’t quite meet the bar for his tastes. /s

[Note update: He voted to acquit trump on only 1 of 3 charges]

Ironically, I’ve had lots of gay sex with Mormons.

As long as you were only soaking and someone else jump-humped it doesn’t count. That’s the 2nd of God’s loopholes.

Mormons of all sexualities have a lot of sex, especially when they’re teenagers. They just repress all of that later and feel super guilty about it.

Romney clearly didnt vote for Trump in 2020 either, he wanted to impeach him last I remember.

Romney is a never Trumper, this wasn’t the last straw. He is one of the few Republicans in office who has been calling Trump out on all his shady past and present ever since he started campaigning for the 2016 election.

You can always count on Mitt Romney to uphold the bare minimum standards of ethics.

I hate that I have to say the bare minimum ethics is the gold star standard for republicans right now.

… Most of the time. Okay, at least some of the time. Which gives him an overwhelming lead against the entire rest of the Republican pack who are aggressively opposed to the concept of ethics in general

It’s always amazing where some Republicans draw the line. Overt racism? Bizarre incoherence? Trying to overturn an election with a riot? Spousal assault previously documented in court? Paying off prostitutes with campaign money? Trying to use federal foreign aid money to start a fake smear campaign on an opponent? Calling up state election officials and pressuring them to create a bullshit election investigation? Politicizing public health because you’re vain about your weird makeup? Mocking disabled people? Having Russian officials over to the White House and destroying the translator’s notes? Saying things about women like “bleeding out of her whatever”? Demonstrating a pattern of fraudulent accounting for decades? No problem. But this ONE thing, that’s too much.

It’s easy to find Romney supporting something you agree with, because he’s taken both sides of most issues. He seems reasonable now in comparison to Trump and the MAGA dipshits, but that’s a really low bar we should ignore.

Changing your mind can be a good thing, if your decision is based on new facts and a change in public opinion.

Changing your mind because wealthy doners tell you to is not.

I honestly don’t care to dive into Romneys past enough to figure out which is which. But changing one’s mind over a lifetime in politics is probably a good thing.

I don’t need to dive into anything, I lived through his career. He was progressive in Massachusetts when it served him to be so. He was regressive in Utah when it served him to be so. He is the quintessential slimeball politician, constantly asking where his people are going so that he might lead them there.

He also put his dog in a crate on top of his car and went on a road trip. So he’s definitely a piece of shit any way you slice it.

Almost like he’s a conservative. Not a Republican but picked a party because you have to if you want your votes/political career to go anywhere. It would be fair to say both conservatives and liberals alike do not appreciate sexual assault / rape. The Republican party just closed it’s eyes or looks away because it will hit their political strength to acknowledge all the scumbags in their party

To be a conservative is to grow your political beliefs around your identity. Every conservative is the same in this regard, and that is how you end up with wildly disparate conservative values. The first decision a conservative makes is who is included in the “self.” Then they decide what policies and positions best benefit the self. This has always been true of every conservative who ever lived.

The problem they have right now is that Trump has made himself the only “self” that matters, and supporting him is the only path to power the Republican party has. All who have opposed him were made to kneel or be destroyed. Even Romney supported Trump when it was politically expedient. Romney tried to wrest control of the GOP away from Trump and failed, and look at him now.

The party must support Trump, because to abandon him now is to admit to the grift. They would have to acknowledge that he isn’t the messiah, and then the in-fighting begins. Because suddenly they would need to redefine the self, and whoever wins gets to set the values of the party.

Damn, remember when he was one of the “evil” ones? Now look at us, almost taking his side and desperately hoping a new wave Republican doesn’t summon an incubus as their running mate.

And the whole point of voting is that it’s anonymous. We can never know who anyone voted for really.

Buuut the lack of endorsement is good. if he publicly endorses Biden that may sway some “moderates” who would vote for Trump.
